2025 annual report

From the September 28, 2025 bulletin…

Dear Holy Rosary Friends and Families,

This past year at Holy Rosary has been one of grace, growth, and renewed mission rooted in the Dominican tradition. Our parish continues to embrace the call to preach the Good News through sacred liturgy, prayer, and faith formation.

A special blessing of our Jubilee Year was hosting the Sacred Liturgy Conference, which drew participants from across the Northwest to encounter the beauty of the liturgy and deepen their love for the Eucharist. Our Rosary Pilgrimage through Northeast Portland, concluding at Holy Rosary, gave a powerful public witness to our devotion to Our Lady. As one of the designated Jubilee sites, we also welcomed visitors and pilgrims throughout the year, extending hospitality and inviting them to encounter Christ in Word, Sacrament, and community. Another highlight was the Ignite Your Torch Youth Conference, where young people from across the region filled our church for a Solemn High Dominican Rite Mass—a hopeful sign of the Church’s future.

At the heart of our parish life are the sacraments. This year, our friars celebrated over 1,200 Masses, offered more than 700 hours of confession, and responded to more than 70 sick calls, bringing the comfort of the Anointing of the Sick to those in need. This doesn't even include the thousands of hours that our ushers, servers, and other ministers have given to serve the people of God. Each weekend, more than 500 parishioners and visitors gather to worship, adore, and receive the Eucharist—the source and summit of our Christian life.

By God’s grace and your generosity, our parish ended the fiscal year with income exceeding our normal operating expenses. This blessing enabled us to sustain our ministries, care for our buildings, support our staff, and serve our community. We also completed two significant projects—the replacement of the church and priory sewer line and the priory boiler—and completed our office renovation, with most expenses reflected in next year’s report.

At the same time, we must be prudent. Offertory giving has declined and no longer covers our regular operating needs. While rental income has provided stability, future changes in nearby properties mean we cannot depend on it alone. For this reason, I ask you to prayerfully consider how you might strengthen your support—through regular offertory, online giving, a one-time gift, or your continued prayers that God will provide for all our needs. Every contribution, regardless of its size, makes a meaningful difference in sustaining our mission.

Looking ahead, we remain committed to the mission of offering traditional and reverent liturgies, including Dominican Rite Masses, and nurturing parish devotions such as the Rosary, First Friday, and First Saturday devotions. We will also continue to strengthen religious education and formation for all ages, ensuring that our parish grows together in faith, knowledge, and love.

Thank you for your faith, love, and commitment to Holy Rosary. Together, may we remain steadfast in the spirit of the early Church—devoted to learning, serving, breaking of the bread, and praying together.
