REV. HIEROMONK MAXIMOS DAVIES
Theosis is the process of growth in holiness with an aim toward likeness and union with God, by the Byzantine Catholic and Easern Orthodox Churches. As a process of transformation, theosis is brought about by the effects of the purification of mind and body and seeking God in prayer. According to Eastern Catholic teaching, theosis is very much the purpose of human life and the universal path of Christian holiness.
Born in the small town of Nowra on the New South Wales South Coast, Australia, Hieromonk Maximos was ordained a priest in 2006, and is currently the Protos and Treasurer at Holy Resurrection Monastery in St. Nazianz, Wisconsin, an Eastern Catholic Monastery in the tradition of the Romanian Greek Catholic Church here in America. He holds a Masters in Orthodox Christian Studies through the Patriarch Athenagoras Orthodox Institute at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, CA; during his studies he lived with the Dominican community at St. Albert’s Priory.
