Jubilee Food Drive

  • Holy Rosary Parish 375 Northeast Clackamas Street Portland, OR, 97232 (map)

As part of the Jubilee Year 2025, the faithful have numerous opportunities to obtain indulgences for either themselves or the souls in Purgatory. One such way, according to the Apostolic Penitentiary for the Jubilee Year, is for "The Faithful, following the example and mandate of Christ, are encouraged to carry out works of charity or mercy more frequently, especially in service of those brothers and sisters who are burdened by various needs. More especially, the faithful should rediscover these corporal works of mercy to feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, clothe the naked, welcome the stranger, heal the sick, visit the imprisoned, and bury the dead."

On the Sundays of March 9th and 16th, the Holy Rosary St. Vincent de Paul Conference and the Parish St. Martin de Porres food pantry will be hosting a parish wide food drive. The faithful can bring unexpired and unopened non-perishable items to the food pantry (located in Siena Hall) and obtain a Plenary Indulgence by practicing the corporal work of mercy of feeding the hungry.

Vincentians will be at the food pantry following all Sunday Masses (including the Saturday Vigil) to accept your donations. The food we collect is provided to both parishioners and those people who live within our parish boundaries who are in need of food assistance.

As a reminder, a plenary indulgence is the remission of the temporal punishment due to sins whose guilt has already been forgiven, offered by the Church through the merits of Jesus Christ. The faithful can gain this plenary indulgence under certain prescribed conditions.  In order to gain this indulgence, in addition to participating in the food drive, the faithful must:

-Have the interior disposition of complete detachment from sin, even venial,

-Have sacramentally confessed their sins 20 days before or after receiving the indulgence,

-Receive the Holy Eucharist,

-Pray for the intentions of the Holy Father.
