St. Augustine: A Companion in a Time of Transition

Our fall and winter 2026 Adult Catholic Education class (ACE) is an introduction to the life, thought, and times of Augustine of Hippo—convert, bishop, preacher, and teacher for Christians living through times of cultural change.

An informational meeting will be held at 4:30 PM on Wednesday, September 16 in Siena Hall, with the weekly class to begin on Wednesday, October 7 at 4:30 PM in Siena Hall, taught by Henry Coates.

Henry received his Master of Divinity from Princeton and his Master of Theology from Harvard, and served as a Presbyterian Pastor for over ten years. The (former) Rev. Coates was welcomed home to the Catholic Church Easter 2026. He has taught Bible, theology, and church history at institutions around the world, most recently Loyola Chicago.

If you want to get a head start, pick up any modern translation of Augustine’s Confessions, and either Peter Brown’s Augustine of Hippo OR Catherine Conybeare’s Augustine the African.
