Topic: The Incarnate Word: Fount of Wisdom
Description: The Ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle famously declared that “all people by nature desire to know.” In doing so, he gave expression to the fundamental human desire for wisdom. What is wisdom, and where do we find it? Many people today turn to new age spiritualities, eastern religions, or popular science for answers. Others, such as the Three Wise Men, seek wisdom in a babe lying in a manger. These wise men sought wisdom in Jesus of Nazareth, who the Church proclaims as the Incarnate Word of God. In this talk, Br. Joseph Selinger, O.P. will outline how the human desire for wisdom is fulfilled in Jesus Christ. Only Jesus Christ, as the Incarnate Word, can lead us away from the foolishness of “the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age” towards the wisdom of God: “a mystery that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began.” (1 Corinthians 2:6-7)
Bio: Br. Joseph Selinger O.P. was born in Vancouver Canada and studied Information Technology at the British Columbia Institute of Technology. Interested in the priesthood, he earned a Bachelor of Arts with a major in philosophy at the Collège Universitaire Dominicain in Ottawa, run by the Canadian Dominicans. After completing his degree, he entered the Western Dominican Province as a novice in 2014.
